SEEK AND MAP OPPORTUNITIES
To decide on a volunteering opportunity, one should first map some relevant options. The most effective role is not necessarily an obvious one. Sometimes “shiny” opportunities are highly populated, while less popular options might actually be more effective. Thus, to find promising opportunities, we should actively search.
In this step we aim to create a list of various options. It’s good to keep an open mind and include a big range of options.
We will use a special sheet to keep track of all the options and insights. Please make a copy of this sheet and rename it. Throughout this section, you’ll document new opportunities in it.
The method
Generally, a volunteering option can be defined by two main aspects - “what” and “where”: which specific role are you going to fulfill, and under which cause or organization are you going to operate. The following two sections are aimed to help you map some options for “what” and “where”. Following that, you will combine the ideas to create possible opportunities.
We recommend spending some time thinking of each part separately, because we believe that to find an impactful opportunity, it would be useful to be both excited about the cause and able to contribute to it in a way that utilizes your unique skills and abilities.
You can select which section you want to start with first: “Explore impactful cause areas & organizations” or “Define your specific role”.
